Objective

This is the essence of world federalism: the establishment of global authorities with legal and political authority to solve problems that can only be solved at the global level, while at the same time preserving the authority of individual states in matters that can be considered essentially internal.

THE WORLD FEDERATION IS A GOAL FOR THE FUTURE AND AN URGENT TASK FOR TODAY.

We recognize that building a global community—one based on fundamental justice and the appreciation of existing differences—is the greatest intellectual, moral, and political challenge of our time. This challenge calls each of us to reexamine our faith and priorities and to express our personal participation in global change.

As members of the world federalist movement, we emphasize our resolve to exercise our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the entire world, in order to achieve the lofty purposes of the United Nations.

Our planet is in crisis and faces serious problems that no single nation can solve in an ungoverned world. It has become an urgent matter for the world's people and governments to work together to create a new level of global cooperation that can only be achieved by devoting ourselves to the planet as a true community. We are doing this and we call on our fellow citizens and our government to do the same.

As world federalists, we view the world as one community embracing all humanity in all its diversity. We assume that the ideals and principles of community life form the basis of civil existence and must be applied to international relations. We therefore call for urgent progress in developing democratic legal institutions of the world through which the world's citizens and nations can govern their relations in order to ensure a peaceful, just, and ecologically viable world society.

These institutions must have sufficient de facto authority to make laws and enforce justice, in accordance with the basic federalist principle of subsidiarity. This constitutes the distribution of political authority and powers between the different levels of government and the resolution of problems at the level where they arise, generally as locally as possible.

Key points for the pursuit of a world federation

  • To promote understanding and friendly relations among the world's cultures and political ideologies.
  • End the arms race and destroy all weapons of mass destruction.
  • To put an end to the threat and waging of (civil) war and terrorism.
  • To enforce respect for universal human rights and freedoms, including the right of all to enjoy the conditions of a full life and the freedom of all to responsibly express their beliefs.
  • Equal participation of all in the global economy and in global decisions that affect our lives.
  • Protecting our environment and preserving the ecosystem for future generations.
  • The emergence of a world ethic and of the consciousness of humanity as one community and of each person as a citizen of one world
